Human rights
This booklet was developed by the Human Rights and Environmental Law Clinic of the University of the State of Amazonas within the scope of the project entitled “Clínicadhda.org: virtualizing clinical legal teaching in times of pandemic” contemplated by the Extension Program of the School of Law of the University of Amazonas. State of Amazonas. In it, concepts and issues involving human rights are presented in a simple way.
DEFINITIONS
What are Human Rights?
Despite having, in principle, an easy conceptualization, talking about rights
humans is a somewhat difficult task, but not impossible.
Who are the subjects of these rights?
For the United Nations
United Nations (UN), human rights
are “universal legal guarantees that
protect individuals and groups from
actions or omissions of governments that
violate human dignity”.
Examples of human rights are
right to life, right to physical integrity,
the rights to vote and be voted for, the right to
housing and food as well.
To understand what these
rights we have to remember that all
human beings, either individually or
collectively have rights
considered universal that, once
recognized, protect the dignity
humanity and all its consequences...
